WOORI SORI

WOORI SORI •

OUR PERFORMER

Woori Sori (Our Voice) is a Chicago-based, all-women’s Korean percussion group that uses four traditional Korean instruments involved in pungmul to create a space for people to share powerful connections through dance, singing, and playing drums.

Historically, pungmul was played for harvesting rituals, collective farming labor, community celebrations, and gathering people for action to resist colonial power. Today, it continues to be played by people all over the world to celebrate Korean culture, lift up collective power, and resist oppression.

Woori Sori came together to create an all-women’s group to share their voice within a traditionthat has been historically dominated by men. Multi-generational members of Woori Sori bring various backgrounds as mothers, sisters, daughters, and community workers with our commitment to work together to achieve gender, racial, and social justice.

Guests have the option of fish, beef, or chicken for their main course, which will be ordered day-of. If a guest would like a vegetarian or vegan meal, that must be indicated on the registration beforehand. We will have an open bar throughout the duration of the event.

  • Each table is 10 seats. If you are a sponsor, you will receive a certain number of complimentary tickets with your gift.

If you do not have your guest list ready before registration, you can submit it at later time through this form. Please note, while guests will be able to order day-of, it is crucial that we know beforehand if they have dietary restrictions (e.g. vegetarian/vegan meal, allergies), need childcare (limited spots available), or interpretation services. If guest information is not submitted by Monday, April 21, we may not be able to guarantee those accommodations.

Children will be supervised by multiple KAN-WIN staff members and trusted volunteers. If a child (12+) would like to be seated with their parent, you must purchase a General Admission ticket to be seated in the dining area. Children will be provided with the venue’s kid’s meal.

  • We will be providing live interpretation services for Korean, Mandarin, and Mongolian, and will provide headsets for guests who request on the registration form. We have a limited number of equipment so this will be provided on a first come, first served basis. We will provide a copy of our program script upon request.
